I want to share my story of my photo shoot and why I decided to do one. I’ve always struggled with body image issues - beginning around age 9 or 10.
I’ve never been comfortable in my own skin. Never liked how I looked in clothes - let alone without!
Always compared myself to other girls around me.
I hated looking in the mirror at myself.
I’ve been married to my husband for 9 years and we’ve been together since I was 16. He’s always told me I’m beautiful and reminds me of this daily. Despite his kind words, I’ve never believed him.
I’ve always struggled with my weight as well. I’ve done the yo-yo dieting and lost a bunch of weight, just to gain it all back. Then I had 2 kids and became even more insecure with my body. I love my kids and they were well worth the sacrifice, but I struggle to look at myself in the mirror and hate allowing my husband to see what I see.
I’ve wanted to do a boudoir photo shoot for my husband for quite some time. We were married young, and I had never heard of such a thing then. It’s something I’ve dreamed of but never thought I’d actually gain the courage to do it. I thought there was no way to make me look the way I should without a significant amount of editing, and then it’s not really me in the end. The last thing I wanted was for some fantasy pictures for my husband that was again a reminder of who I should be rather than who I am.
I sat down one day and did some research. I had stumbled upon Sugar and Spice awhile ago and knew this is the one I wanted to pursue. The website was extremely professional, had great reviews, and I loved that I could get my hair and make up done plus not have to worry about supplying my own outfits. I decided to email to see what was available and to my surprise, there was an opening a few weeks out. I quickly snatched it up - knowing if I gave myself time to think, I would surely back out. Now I was committed, and I had to do it!
My session was everything I wanted and so much more!
Not only was it what I wanted, it’s what I needed! I found myself breaking out of my shell and being comfortable with my body not just in front of myself but also the others that were there. I did things I never thought I would do - like get in a bubble bath! It was just as much, if not more, of a gift for myself as it was for my husband!
My husband was in awe when the pictures came back! He raved about how happy and confident I looked.
He said he has never seen me smile like I did in these pictures.
I was shocked that the raw pictures that came back looked good, even without the editing. It truly was me! Sugar and Spice staff made it so easy to let loose and do things I never would have thought I would! I have nothing negative to say about this experience! What I really need to say is thank you! You all gave me the confidence I needed. The confidence I never knew I had! And you sure made my husband a happy man, not just by the pictures, but by the confidence I now have in myself!
