I’ve been to Sugar and Spice Photography three times - and I’m already planning out my fourth trip.
I’m a woman in her early 40’s, two kids, and have been with my husband since we were 16 and married now for 20 years. I’ve always sent him racy photos that he always appreciates. I even sent him photos before taking pictures with cell phones was a thing when he was deployed in Kuwait back in 2001. Of course back then, I could take better pictures without assistance. When I was trying to take some fun pics in our bedroom with a selfie stick I purchased, I was very displeased with the results. I knew then that I needed help. I Googled how to take flattering pictures, but couldn’t quite get them to work. It was after several failed attempts (including me falling off the bed more than once) that I remembered a friend back in Michigan telling me about one of her friends having done a boudoir photo shoot. I looked up to see if that was a thing in my new home in Minnesota, and it was! I found a couple places, and after some research I decided that Sugar and Spice Photography was going to be my best bet.
I was more than a little intimidated by the idea and the price (the only pictures I have had done in recent years was the kids’ school photos), but in the end I picked a half day shoot. I was so excited and nervous, but I did it! Furthermore, I wasn’t going to tell my husband. I was having the shoot done in December and I knew they wouldn’t be ready by Christmas, but who needs a holiday to give sexy pics right? As the days went by until my shoot, I made sure to go to the gym. Hey, I know miracles can’t happen, but I figured I could at least give it my best shot. Day before the shoot I got my hair and nails done. I could hardly believe it was coming!!
Next day when I got my husband off to work and the kids on their busses, I packed a bag and flew out the door, adrenaline pumping! I arrived early on a super cold, snowy day. I couldn’t get out of the car. I was so scared to do this. Then I did the only thing I could; I called my friend Ashley. She told me to stop being such a whiny kid and to get out of the damn car. She was right! I grabbed by purse and my bag, then headed to the studio. Still super nervous, I went up the stairs (holy shit there were a bunch!) and rang the bell. Still not knowing what to expect, I stood there contemplating running back to my car. The door opened and..
I was greeted in such a warm and excited manner that my fears started to slip away and the excitement came back.
I got a quick tour of the studio and then I was taken back to the dressing area. Oh my God - I was in love!! The shoes, the clothes, and the jewelry! I couldn’t wait to start.
I had such a great time talking to Lyndsay while she was doing my makeup and the girls were going over a million ideas a minute. Then, after the hair and make up was applied, I got to see myself. Boy did I feel pretty! Maybe I could do this.
The we picked sets and outfits, and my favorite thing, SHOES!! The girls loved the Minnie Mouse slippers that I brought with me and we even incorporated them into a set. They were so much fun and made me feel beautiful. It was just the best day ever.
I didn’t feel bad about the droopy boobs or the jiggly areas, I was beautiful and I was having fun!
I didn’t want it to end. I left the studio feeling confident, beautiful, and good about myself. Now I just had to wait the agonizing wait for proofs!
Now when the proofs came, I was sooooo excited! I had no idea how the photos would look and was starting to get nervous again. When I opened them up to look, I couldn’t believe that they were me! I was hot! All of the good feelings came back along with the confidence. Now, while I was looking at the proofs, I didn’t notice my husband coming into our office behind me. He asked why I was looking at porn – lol!! I explained to him that this lady on my screen was ME, and I had photos taken. He was shocked and then was very excited to look through the photos.
He hearted way too many, but it sure did make me feel good.
I was so pleased with the photos, both proofs and finished touched up ones, that I booked my second trip down there only another month later.
My second trip was planned as a pin up shoot. My husband had mentioned how much he liked photos like that, so I decided to give him that. This trip I was not nervous, just excited! Lindsay was my make up artist again and this time my photographer was Katya. They were so amazing to work with. A very different shoot but still so much fun! I loved the outfits, victory curls, bright make-up, and of course - the shoes. We were in the kitchen and Lyndsay put her hand in the flour and smacked a handprint on my ass. It was hilarious and came out to be such an amazing shot!
This time I brought a necklace in to shoot with and we incorporated that into the bath shoot. It was so awesome to be able to come again, but have such a different experience. I surprised my husband again with these pictures, and he wasn’t less excited than the first time.
I felt powerful and confident. It truly shows in the pictures.
Now between the last shoot and this one, I had enough post card prints to keep putting in my husband’s suitcase when he leaves – lol! And he travels quite a bit. He also keeps them on his phone, which makes me feel pretty special.
Fast-forward a couple of years. Now I live in Washington state and have lost a few pounds. Not at my goal, but feeling pretty good. I then realized that I needed pictures done again. Now there’s no way that I’m going to even try to go anywhere else. I know where I feel comfortable and confident, so I booked my trip back to Sugar and Spice Photography in Minnesota. I made sure to book this trip when my husband was out of town so I could surprise him again. This was to be a Valentine’s Day present.
After my last visit I knew that I had to do a Dungeons & Dragons themed shoot in the whiskey room. I was so excited to pack my props (including devil horns) to my favorite place.
The D&D session was so amazing. I was so exited to do this this one and was so pleased with the outfit, shoes, and jewelry that we selected. I felt great and couldn’t wait to be able to show them to my husband.
I came the day before so I could do some shopping (Flirt Boutique is the BEST!) and see friends. I was excited and well rested for the big day. This time I booked a full day shoot. I knew I was going to hurt after this so I pre-gamed the shoot with Motrin. I didn’t want anything to get in my way of a fabulous time. Lyndsay and Katya were my team again, as I had asked for them to be. I was excited and knew I was going to have a great time! When I got there, it was seeing friends again! We had all connected on Facebook so I knew what was going on in their lives and was happy to see them again.
What a fantastic shoot! It was more creative this time as I wanted a different style from before. From start to finish it was great!! We even put together a make shift dress from some fabric to go with the angel wings.
I found a glorious crown in the Glam Room area and we put that in a couple too. It was magical!
We ended the day with a quick little add on. I found these amazing sparkly blue shoes that looked like something that Cinderella would wear.
I can’t even explain how much I love coming to Sugar and Spice Photography.
Im excited to go there, have a blast while I’m there, feel like a beautiful woman, and then still bring that feeling home. It’s such an amazing experience that’s worth its weight in gold. I can hardly wait to fly back out again. I already have planned out some ideas with my friends at the studio. It will be another amazing trip. Of that, I have no doubts what so ever. I can never thank them enough for making me feel like a beautiful woman and the empowering feeling I get to relive every time I see my photos.

Too funny!) We had the HARDEST time choosing which pictures to use from your three shoots. So many gorgeous shots - and so much creativity and fun.
